Compare Cable vs. DSL

Okay, so you are finally tired of those slow dial-up internet connections, and you want to go broadband. Good deal. But first, you may be wondering which type of broadband connection is best- DSL or Cable? Or, at least, which of the two gives you more speed for the price? Here we take a look at these two popular broadband connections and try to determine which one is better: DSL vs. Cable.

Cable Speed vs. DSL

The most common question that comes up is which type of connection is faster, DSL or Cable? To answer this, it is important to compare both upload and download speeds. Now, so you have something to compare these speeds to, your average dial-up connection is about 28 - 56 Kbps. Most often, however, you won't be able to get 56k through dial up, as most services can not handle this speed.

The average speed of a DSL download is 1.0 - 1.5Mbps. That's megabytes per second - about 20 times as fast as the fastest dial-up connection. This is fast, but consider Cable, which can give you up to 2 - 3Mbps. Thus, at least for downloading, cable can give you almost twice the speed of DSL - that's impressive. On the upload side, however, cable and DSL are pretty evenly matched. They both provide about 100Kbps - 400Kbps. It seems that cable has won this battle.

What about Price and Quality of Service?

There is more to discuss here besides the speed of the connections. Take price for one. Cable and DSL connections are both going to be more expensive than dial-up. But, DSL seems to be the cheaper of the two at the moment. You can get a good DSL internet connection for about $35 - $45 per month. Cable modem will cost you about $45 or $50 (this price may be included in a cable TV package). These prices, however, are really close and they change almost from month to month.

DSL is nice because you can talk on the phone and be online at the same time. In addition, business-level DSL service provides guaranteed data rates, so your connection speed is never a surprise. On the other hand, DSL speed tends to decrease the further you are away from the data center, and it is typically not as widely available as Cable. Cable speeds are not dependent on distance from the data center, and is occasionally cheaper than DSL when included in a cable TV rate. A cable modem, however, may require costly professional installation, and there may exists some limitations on downloads and uploads. All of these factors should be taken into consideration when choosing either broadband service.

Copybook - Is It Essential to Know?

Knowing the copybook model before an analysis could be performed has been a hallmark of handwriting assessment. There are many situations where that knowledge is not possible. Yet, analyses are made. How? Why is it essential to know? That question is examined in this paper with doubt as to its requirement.

Presentation

Action follows being. That phrase will be key to this paper as it symbolizes handwriting analysis and how analysts see the action (writing) as describing the source (writer).

The purpose of this paper is simply to challenge the need to know copybook. There are a number of arguments for this approach and few to continue the need to know.

The scientific basis of handwriting

The Universe is scientifically based. No one can deny that given educational awareness. That being true, all acts within the Universe must also be scientifically based including the act of writing. The act of writing is controlled by the brain, which must also be subject to scientific laws some or all of which we may or may not yet be aware. But they do exist just like Einsteins energy law, which existed eons ago but only recently in time was it developed and proven.

A persons brain is developed by DNA instruction, as is the whole body. This means each persons brain is genetically disposed and uniquejust like handwriting. In turn, it can be intimated that handwriting is essentially genetically derived. Further, this would imply that the tendency to revert to the inherent genetic execution of handwriting would be strong even with specific instructions like copybooks. Familial similarities in handwriting also supports the concept that handwriting is essentially inherent in construction.

The concept that handwriting is scientifically based is virtually unchallengeable given the insight recognition that all things in the Universe are related in some manner and that every consequence has a cause the nature of which can be examined.

Twenty-five year profiles

Our family consists of two boys, now 30 and 28. Ever since they could scribble, a sample of their writings through the years has been kept. The basic similarities in movements in each case is remarkable. For instance, the two basic movements, a straight line or curve, remains predominant in each case. Spacing used between the words and lines is also similar. Size has decreased over time, which is normal for people, in general, even with the aged. The pressure used in each case has also remained quite similar with the youngest slightly less than the older. And, this occurred BEFORE copybook was taught.

When copybook was taught an attempt was made to match the system but, of course, no one could exactly match it. Subsequently, over time, a reversion began to appear.

It was quite interesting during the time period of learning and attending conferences that all of the childrens handwritings were posted on the wall for parents to observe. Although all were taught ONE method, each display could be seen to be different with some very different. So, already, the imposition of a system could not be maintained.

All this goes to indicate that an inner system controlled by the brain was operating in each childs case and logic dictates it to be genetic in design. Deviation, in this and every other case, never occurred because copybook was NEVER accomplished, only the general design of letters. Reverting to questioned document principles, temporarily, one cannot copy anothers writing perfectly. In this case, copybook is what is being attempted to simulate and, therefore, cannot be perfectly simulated. Therefore, each persons display in some manner is different and must originate in the brain, which is DNA generated.

Only two possible movements

Adding more to the insight that handwriting is scientifically based is the realization that there are only two possible movements when writing or printing or anything else for that matter: a straight line or a curve. All writing/printing has parts that are one or the other. Just look around at the environment in which you are located at this time and all that you see will be either straight or curved. A Universal principle. A scientific principle. This principle is analogous to the zero and one principle of computers.

So, what does this have to do with handwriting? Well, the brain being genetically based and the execution of handwriting being brain-based there can only be two possible handwriting/printing movements: a straight line or a curve. The tendency of one or the other will be expressed predominantly as the writing develops since the writer basically has no knowledge of what has been set forth in this paper but is subconsciously exhibiting his or her nature/personality by way of a genetically disposed brain.

All this leads to the conclusion for this section that copybook or no copybook, a persons handwriting is controlled not by copybook but by genetic forces primarily. Copybook, in and of itself, has but a minute influence on the analysis of the handwriting except, as stated previously, to indicate the initial design of letters never to have been exactly duplicated in the first place.

Copybook as a standard?

Any copybook amounts to one persons idea of size, proportion, width, slant and more. One persons, basically. Were these measurements, proportions, slant, and more the result of statistical studies as to what method would be best? Most efficient? Was there peer review? Doubtful. This is somewhat analogous to taking one sample from a large population and dictating this to be the best, most efficient and the standard for comparing and assessing personalities from this day forward. This, it is believed to be very presumptuous.

The fact is copybook was/is nothing more than a guide of how to design a general concept of a letter. Were garlands part of it? No. Were angularities part of it? No. Were thread connections part of it? No. But, as the obvious shows, individual preferences prevail. How can that happen? Not by copybook!! Additionally, as indicated previously, no one can duplicate copybook perfectly and at the child level of learning individuality already is seen. Did children learn to measure the oft-stated 3 mm for every space before writing? Never. So, where does the individuality come from? The obvious answer is the inherent DNA-created-brain making copybook superfluous as a standard. It is more essential to understand the elements, assess their impact, and make conclusions.

Further, and for example, consider the often-published middle zone standard size of 3 mm. Where did that come from? Did it actually measure to exactly 3 mm, if measured at all? Doubtful. If measured, how was it measured? Vertically or including the slant as it should be done? Was there peer review? Did the 3 mm standard amount to anything more than someones idea with no basis? To all those questions there are no real answers nor any reason to require copybook..

The reality of current analytical work

Do all analysts check for copybook before an analysis? Do most? Do any? The probable answer to those questions is that many or most dont and some never unless theres a special case. The writer belongs to the latter case and, for informative purposes and not boastfulness, for over 20 years have been given testimony on accuracy including those of other languages.

Copybook determination is virtually impossible when assessing samples from companies for personnel selection. Given a sample at random to test ones expertise happens often. Who knows what the copybook might have been? How could one take hours or weeks to trace and verify the copybook used by the writer before the analysis? One could guess but not really know. These, and countless other, circumstances prevail in the industry with no chance of acquiring copybook knowledge 100% of the time. Therefore, the probability is that all analysts have at some point analyzed a display without knowing the copybook. One can assume it was Palmer or some other copybook but the reality is that the analyst really does not know.

What you see is what you get

At the time of any writing the person displays a brain pattern reflecting THAT period of time. It is not anywhere near copybook even though it may look similar. How can we assess the deviation from a forced-to-learn copybook when it has never really been learned and always been deviated naturally by children? To be completely accurate, one would need to know how much a child ALREADY deviated from copybook at the time of learning. This is virtually impossible.

An arcade writing at 50 years old simply indicates the characteristics for the arcade writer. An angular writer from Germany at 50 years old simply indicates the characteristics for the angular writer. It does not matter what the copybook was because what the writers display reflects is THAT person at THAT time. The standard, to keep the explanation simple, should be the accumulated experience of the analyst to assess a high-level display from a low-level display with all other element interactions. How the elements are used by the writer reflects the persons brain at that time. Remember, people are aware of what they write but not how they write. The how is automatic and originates not from an immediate, conscious, purposeful, deliberate, development of every detail during the writing process but is rather an unconscious act evolved over a lengthy period of time and is an inherent, DNA-brain expression of that persons nature.

A persons handwriting is a unique set of INESCAPABLE elements such as size, pressure, speed, spacing and much more. They are measurable and, in fact, measurements are what one sees when observing handwriting. Those measurements are transformed by the observers handwriting-analysis-educated brain into a synthesized analysis. Were those measurements precisely traceable to copybook? Never. No, they are unique displays of one person only due to the DNA-created brain. Therefore, copybook served as a guide and is not necessary to know as a comparative base-point of development.

Will EVDO Knock Satellite Internet Out of the Park?

2007 will be the year that Cell phone providers like Sprint, Alltel and Verizon push strong into Suburban and close-in Rural territory staked out by Satellite Internet operators and attempt to take market share away. Will they succeed?

When EVDO Revision A (and soon thereafter Rev B) comes out in Q3 2007, there will be a full blown skirmish between Cell operators and the Satellite Internet industry for available consumer and business internet accounts. The territories they are trying to claim are the areas where concentration of homes and business is great enough to build out advanced cell service, but not great enough for terrestrial providers like cable and dsl. These suburban and rural areas have historically been the territory for Satellite operators and some adventuresome WiFi businesses.

Current Status:

With the current levels of cell service available (EVDO rev.0), cell operators are taking a fair amount of business away from satellite operators in fringe suburban areas....why?.... younger users who want to stream video, trade music and video, play internet games and not have any limitations on usage. So far, the cell operators are filling the bill for about $50 or so for the "Aircard" and charging about $59 per mo. for high speed internet....well, sort of.

The speeds on most EVDO plans are about 400-800 kbps download and around 200 kbps upload. Much higher speeds are promised when Revisions A and B come in to play later this year and beyond. Latency is around 200-350 ms - 50% lower or more than a satellite connection. This latency allows gaming without too many bumps along the way. For those who have been experiencing oppressive limitations from the satellite operators, it seems like heaven....but for how long?

Some of the providers already have a limit of usage each month and it's pretty restrictive (as low as 4GB per month - lower than the satellite operators are assessing). There is no decent data to report on what happens when the network begins to "load up" with users. I was in Denver's airport during a recent snow storm and the EVDO service was non-existent until you were several miles from the airport.....so it's not perfect, by any means. I personally believe that the cell operators are going to learn the same lessons that satellite internet operators have learned........bandwidth is expensive! You can lure people in with attractive prices and speeds, but when you can't maintain those speeds as the network loads up, you just become another one of those lying, cheating, false advertising no good internet providers that we have too many of already! Just kidding........it's not easy to balance a high speed internet network in this day and time.

Future:

When cell operators build out and offer Rev B. EVDO high speed internet service (about 2 years out), the landscape for service will be incredibly competitive. City, suburban and rural individuals and companies will have a lot of choices and the providers with foresight and innovation will be the one's to survive. It should be good for the consumer!

Building Self Confidence and Self Esteem

As a hypnotherapist I specialise in helping people to develop confidence and self esteem.

Perhaps surprisingly, the people who ask for my help are not shrinking violets and their reasons for wanting to develop enhanced self confidence are not wholly selfish. Consider a few examples. The names have been changed.

John works for a large corporate. Diligent, startlingly intelligent and very ambitious, he found that his ideas were consistently overlooked. This wasnt enough of a catalyst to bring him to my door, however. He eventually grew frustrated, and then angry, that dominant individuals in his company were able to put their own ideas forward with ease. Worst of all, some of these ideas, he felt, were positively damaging, but he just couldnt make his opposition count. All his intelligence counted for little in his testosterone-fuelled working environment. It had reached the point where he felt that he should resign and start again with a fresh company; he simply didnt feel that he was adding any real value. A man of great integrity, John would rather leave than tacitly support such a wrong-headed and unintelligent approach to business.

John stayed. We worked together to identify his confidence profile, which was very unusual -- represented by less than 1% of the population. Through work on his stage presence and physical presence, we were able to significantly improve Johns effectiveness in being taken seriously, to the extent where he has recently broken through into senior management.

Jenny came to me because she was lonely. A brief marriage hadnt worked out, and she was finding serial dating to be a frustrating activity. Jenny had come to realise that she wasnt moving out of her comfort zone, either socially or at work. She feared becoming enclosed, locked into a safe routine which wouldnt threaten her, but wouldnt take her life forward either.

Jennys confidence profile was almost the inverse of Johns. Where he had masses of peer independence, Jenny had almost none, which meant that she was hugely dependent on the good opinion of others. She needed lots of reassurance, and had very little faith in her own ability or judgement.

The approach with Jenny was to strengthen her peer independence -- her ability to trust in her own judgement, independent of the views of others - and to build up her self esteem. She has now met somebody, changed her job and moved house -- all in the space of a year!

What these case studies illustrate is the complex nature of self confidence. It isnt like height or weight; you cant read off a single value which describes a person. Confidence is complex and to develop, we need to understand our confidence profile. The Biggest Mistakes Children Make

Whether you are a parent, guardian, relative, or teacher, would you like to help children avoid the biggest mistakes they make which can hurt their self-esteem, physical and mental health, success in school, sports, etc.? The truth is that you can make a difference in their lives. Children are depending on adults to teach and guide them.

As a former school teacher and Marriage, Family Therapist for 27 years, I have had the opportunity to work with many children of all ages, and I noticed similar problems. The following insights and solutions can assist you to help boys and girls to increase their self-esteem and success in every area of their lives. The children are also more likely to be physically and mentally healthier, because they will feel good about who they are and what they are doing.

1. Mistake: I am responsible for how people feel and what happens to them.

Truth: We are only responsible for our thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Action: Tell children that they are not responsible for other people's emotional pain, arguments, illnesses, accidents, and even deaths. The reinforcement of this truth can prevent them from feeling they are bad and sabotaging their success.

2. Mistake: To be a female or male, a woman or a man, I have to be like my mother, father or guardian.

Truth: Children are entitled to be their unique selves.

Action: Encourage children to be who they uniquely are, and tell them that they are okay.

3. Mistake: My parents, relatives, and teachers know everything, and I am wrong if I disagree.

Truth: Parents, relatives, and teachers have learned a lot, and they are human and can make mistakes, or be misinformed.

Action: Encourage children to voice their opinions, and you will be amazed how wise they can be. Reinforce the value of what they think and feel, and they will feel good about themselves.

4. Mistake: I have to hide myself, please others, and focus on being who adults want me to be in order to be loved and accepted.

Truth: In order to be happy and successful, it is important for everyone to be their unique selves, and feel loved and accepted.

Action: Reassure the children that you love them, and you want them to be who they are, and to follow their dreams.

5. Mistake: I feel better when I take my frustrations and anger out on my younger siblings, and I bully other children.

Truth: The negative behavior feels good on some level. They feel powerful when they express their anger, instead of feeling powerless because of their fears. However, their aggressive behavior also causes children to be reprimanded even more and/or feel guilty because they know better. Guilt implies that they are bad, not okay, and hurts their self-esteem.

Action: Help children understand that their anger is covering up their underlying emotions of fear, hurt, or powerlessness. Teach children by your words and actions how to express their frustrations and anger in constructive ways. It is also helpful to find out what fears or hurts are causing their negative behavior and assist them to resolve the issues.

6. Mistake: I have to conform to peer-pressure to be accepted and okay.

Truth: When you do things that are against who you are, you give up a part of yourself and it does not feel good. On the contrary, it feels good to be true to yourself.

Action: Help children feel good about themselves with compliments, hugs, appreciation, acknowledgement, and verbally expressing your love. When they like and love themselves, they are less apt to succumb to peer-pressure. 7. Mistake: I believe what others say without checking it out with myself.

Truth: It is important to trust your own feelings and thoughts and evaluate if what you hear is true for you.

Action: Support your children to think for themselves and to trust their feelings, which are just as valid as anyone else's.

8. Mistake: I don't trust or follow my intuition.

Truth: Everyone is intuitive, and it is the all wise part of us. It can protect and guide us.

Action: Help children open up to their intuition and encourage them to follow it.

9. Mistake: I compare myself to others.

Truth: We all have our unique strengths, talents, and gifts.

Action: Discourage children from comparing themselves to others. Encourage them to always do their best and tell them that they are okay just the way they are. That will help them feel better and focus on who they are.

I believe that adults optimally serve children when they prepare them for life. That means modeling and teaching them how to be honest, deal with money, communicate constructively, create healthy relationships, take care of their bodies, problem-solve with win-win solutions, play safely, learn from their mistakes, and love themselves. Boys and girls are depending on adults to nurture them physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, and when they are ready, encourage them to fly from their nests.

Angels and Airwaves

Tom DeLonge originally from the group Blink-182 has formed a stellar group, put together a totally new sound and has hit the market with the same verve and passion of Blink-182. Angels & Airwaves is in the process of releasing their second album, so if you loved "We Don't Need To Whisper" get ready for their second. And if you like Alternative music that's a blend of electronic and guitars, check out this band that played for Microsoft at the launch of their new software, Vista! Talk about taking it to the next level.

Tom DeLonge wishes comfort for his fans as they listen to "We Don't Need To Whisper" complete with headphones on, maybe sitting on the floor or leaning against the bed. That's how he expects that you'd get the full effect of the music of Angels and Airwaves.

DeLonge from Blink-182 fame went from the San Diego suburbs to the top of the world with the band selling over 20 million records worldwide and winning an assortment of MTV awards. With such notable happenings as Robert Smith of the Cure singing on the band's last album and Peter Townshend tipping his hat to them on stage at the San Diego show, success was evident and very definitely shining its star over the group.

Now with this new venture, Angels and Airwaves, making its debut in May 2006, and the coming of the second album now in production, he's recruited the best. Making up the stellar quartet, Box Car Racer guitarist David Kennedy, bassist Ryan Sinn, drum maestro Atom Willard as well as DeLonge. They have stepped away from the pop-punk hard rock scene into a more alternative blend of electronics and guitars mixed to give you a new, dynamic and very different sound.

The title, "We Don't Need To Whisper", came literally from DeLonge doing a mike check when the group was starting their sessions. Inspiration for their first album came from a myriad of sources including but definitely not limited to Stanley Kubrick's film, 2001, pasting pictures of dying people and burning cities on the walls to symbolize the two ends of humanity - the hope of space and all its beauty and infinity and the horror of what we as a species are capable of in killing, maiming and burning our own kind. It was the extremes and the depiction made up the core of this first album. The album tells a story and DeLonge offers cliffnotes - a look into the minds of the band as they created it.

Adolescent anger management is becoming more prominent in our society. Traditionally, children who enter this last acute phase of bodily and mental development can go through some rough times. Tawana Williams -- On The Move!

Tawana Williams has been blazing unchartered territory for nearly 43 years. She is an internationally known motivational speaker, author of two books, gifted artist, typist, stylist, outstanding cook, entrepreneur and loving wife and mother. Mrs. Williams was born in 1963 in an NC hospital. However, unlike any of the other babies born there on that day, she entered this world with crippled legs ... and without arms.

In Tawana's latest book, titled, "Unarmed But Dangerous," she explains how her mother's bouts with chronic fainting spells and severe nausea during her pregnancy, lead a doctor to prescribed the drug, Thalidomide. Although the drug improved her mother's condition, it had devestating repercussions on her fetus. After Tawana was born, her mother and grandmother provided and cared for her to the best of their ability. However, Tawana had special needs. So, her mother sought additional help from North Carolina's Human Services Department. Incredibly, she was denied. Time and time, again.

One day, in a valiant act of love and resolve, Tawana's mother sat down and wrote a letter to the President of the United States -- John F. Kennedy. Vividly, she told her story. The Oval Office was greatly moved by what they read and responded in kind. She was instructed to take her baby to Cerebral Palsy Hospital in Durham, NC. There, Tawana lived and received intensive rehabilative services for the first four years of her life.

As Tawana's spirit began to develop and evolve, so did her role as "conqueror." Today, when she addresses her audiences, she candidly speaks about how she overcame the darkest periods of her life. Tawana Williams inspires, motivates, mentors, and masterfully shows others that they can do the things, they think they cannot. Said one, greatly-inspired youth after one of her presentations,

As part of the OnTheMove! Interview Series, eMediaCampaigns! spoke with Tawana about her mission, "different-ability," love for God, and her latest book, "Unarmed But Dangerous."

EMC!: Good morning, Tawana. Thank you so very much for meeting with us.

TW: Good morning, Fran. It's a pleasure to be with you today.

EMC!: Would you share with us a little more about your background?

TW: Yes, I was born without arms and trained as a baby to use my feet just as others use their hands. I have completely overcome the adversity of being born without arms and turned from a being a victim, into becoming victorious!

EMC!: See, now I want to shout (laugh). I feel your joy, Tawana ... Tell us, "A blessing and a curse." In your opinion, does this statement have any validity?

TW: Yes it does, because, once I realized what I had, it didn't matter to me. As a child, I felt that God had forgotten me, cursed me, and even forsaken me. You see, I have three sisters and have always asked God, "Why me? Why not them?" Today, I realize they could not have taken what I have taken, done the things that I've done, and gone through, and come out -- victorious -- like I've come out!

EMC!: Your latest book, Unarmed But Dangerous: "The Tawana Williams Story of Relentless Struggle and Ultimate Victory," is scheduled to be released later this year. Could you explain what you mean when you use the word, "dangerous?"

TW: The "weapons" that I possess that are dangerorus -- are my feet. I can do almost anything with them. I am an artist, poet, vocalist, wife and mother. I fed my own baby her bottle, braided her hair, bathed her, and even dressed her with my two, blessed feet.

Les Brown, the motivational speaker and author, wrote an awesome "Foreword" for my book, "Unarmed But Dangerous: The Tawana Williams Story of Relentless Struggle and Ultimate Victory." He will also be promoting it. Please support the book. I am donating a portion of the sales to The Sharpe Health School for the Disabled in Washington, D.C. I attended the school in 1968 - 1974. So, my question is ... "What's your excuse?"

EMC!: Tawana, it's my understanding that, you have more skills and talents than you shared earlier. For example, despite having no arms, you respond to, and send your own emails. And, isn't it true that you type 35 words per minute ... with your feet?

TW: Absolutely! I send -- and respond to my own emails. And, I do type 35 - 40 words per minute -- (laugh) with my feet! Actually, Fran, I did hide my talents for years because I was ashamed of all that I could do. But now, I am proud of what God has done, and what He continues to do, through me.

EMC!: At what point did you know that you wanted to become a motivational speaker?

TW: I knew that I wanted to become a speaker when I realized that so many of the people that I came in contact with were ungrateful, slothful, lazy, and always complaining about what they didn't have. I felt I was the perfect one that should be complaining -- but I wasn't. I was using what I had. No excuse is acceptable.

EMC!: Tawana, I've heard you say: "The words, 'I can't' are not an option." What are the words or phrase which you would use, instead?

TW: "I can do all things." These words are powerful to me because I'm not a quitter; I'm a winner. We all must use whatever we have. If I had started out saying, "I can't" ... I probably would not have made it. If you think you can't; you won't.

EMC!: Who are the mentors who have made the biggest impact in your life?

TW: Many people have made a difference in my life, but, some very special people have blessed me more than they'll ever know: My mentor, Les Brown; my friend and business partner, Dr. Stan Harris; my Life Coach, Arthur C. Doakes; Mr. Ken Brown (motivational speaker/author), and my awesome husband, Mr. Keither "Toby" Williams. These men have truly impacted my life.

EMC!: The Honorable, Judge Glenda Hatchett (from the TV series, Judge Hatchett), recently asked you for assistance during an intervention with a youth in her courtroom. Could you describe the experience?

TW: That experience was unbelievable! I'd never been a mentor in that capacity, so to speak. Although, I had helped many young people with issues. But, that experience showed me that there was another gift to offer the world. I'm blessed to have the opportunity to be Judge Hatchett's interceptor. That is a day that I will never forget.

EMC!: You are one of the few professional speakers who speak passionately, and regularly with our youth. What lead you to address this particular segment of our population?

TW: The youth sparked something in me that pushed me. I realized kids as being mean and cruel. Then I learned that they picked on me because they didn't know any better. Education is the key to being empowered. Once I began to share with them my life's situation, they had an understanding about differences, peer pressure, drugs, and many other issues. I see how young people aren't using what God has given them.

EMC!: When did you first begin working with children?

TW: I began to deal with our youth from day one. My daughter's first day of school was a challenge for the both of us. Me -- walking her to class -- was an experience within itself. But, when we got home that day, I asked her, "How was your day, today?" She replied, "Good, but the only thing I did was answer questions about you."

That frightened me because, I knew that kids could be very mean to each other. The next day, I called the teacher and asked if I could come into April's class for "Show and Tell Day." The teacher was so excited that I was willing to share my story with the kids. I knew that I didn't want April to be tormented and humiliated as I was as a child. I think we need to train our children up in the way that they should go. And, when they are older, they won't depart from what they are taught.

EMC!: Your speaking platform includes, "What God Can Do." Can you share with us how He helped you overcome your adversity?

TW: God is my main focus in life. He's first. He used me to show me I could do (anything) no matter what. He let me know long ago that, if I didn't do it, it wouldn't get done. Also, he let me know that I had everything I needed, I just had to use what I had. "Many are called, but few are chosen." I was chosen by God to be, just who I am.

EMC!: Tawana, you've been quoted as saying: "God delivered me from Crack Cocaine in 1991 and I've been on a mission ever since." Could you elaborate?

TW: Yes. My addiction to Crack started because I wanted to "fit in by any means necessary." Peer pressure in high school was so hard for me because I was so different. Crack Cocaine consumed me. I neglected my family for Crack. I thought it was my all. When I hit rock bottom -- that's when God stepped in. He did a work and sent me on a mission. I'm a living testimony of what God can do.

EMC!: Many believe that their mission is preceded by a vision from God. Do you share this belief?

TW: Oh, yes! I know God has sent me on this mission because if it was just me, I would have quit long time ago. This is my ninth year as a motivational speaker. God has trained me to the fullest. I am a humble servant.

EMC!: What's next for you in terms of your projects and speaking engagements?

TW: Les Brown and I will be going into the studio soon to cut a CD series titled, "No Excuse is Acceptable." And, I will be the Special Guest speaker at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, Illinois. That date is October 10, 2005, and it begins at 7 p.m. The Pastor is Charles Jenkins.

EMC!: Describe one of the most significant breakthroughs that you had with a member of your audience during -- or after a presentation.

TW: I spoke at a high school this past Friday. The young people were excited about me coming. I did my thing and they were blessed.

EMC:! When you say, "They were blessed." Are you referring to the specific demonstrations which you shared with the students that day?

TW: Yes. I braided "Baby April's" (a baby doll) hair; fed her; burped her and changed her Pamper diaper. I then demonstrated how I tie shoe laces with my feet -- kids are so slothful about not tying their shoe laces these days! I also spoke about peer pressure and teasing other kids. The children showered me with hugs and kisses at the end. One particular girl hugged me so tight, that I knew something was going on inside her.

A couple of days later, I received a letter from a young lady who attended the school. I knew it was that same girl. She told me that, that Friday was supposed to be her last day on earth. She had planned to commit suicide when she got home. But, after hearing my message and seeing me demonstrate how I used my feet, she said: "I can live, and I can go on." Oh, what a glorious day that was for me and my husband -- to know that God used us once again to save another life. God gives strength to the weak, so don't faint ... wait.

EMC!: What a tremendously, powerful presentation that must have been... Tawana Williams, thank you so much for sharing. Indeed, it was a pleasure speaking with you.

TW: The pleasure has been all mine. Thank you, Fran, for giving me the opportunity to share my message of hope and inspiration to encourage someone's heart today. God bless you.

BT Broadband is another U.K. firm that is becoming increasingly popular with its cheap Internet offerings. What BT offers deals from 26.99 pounds per month, and also has a variety of packages available for home or business.

Like anything, finding the cheap Internet access is not too hard. But doing a little research to find the most reliable and suitable product for your needs may be whats important. There are a number of cheap Internet providers. But it may be best to talk to a few people who use their service to find out if they are reliable or not.

Also, look at your personal needs. Dont let yourself get sold up into a package that is more than what you need. Figure out what you need first, then shop for that when you are looking to find a cheap Internet provider. One aspect of finding cheap Internet access is knowing if you are using it for home or office. Could Ray Kroc have founded McDonalds in the Era of Sarbaines Oxley?

Over regulation of our free markets is stifling our growth in America and killing the next superstar Entrepreneurs. Lets discuss just how bad it really is. Lets us discuss Ray Kroc, founder of McDonalds and the Father of Franchising. In this philosophical discussion let us look at history for a moment shall we? If Ray Kroc had to pay $45,000 to create disclosure documents to franchise right out of the gate, could he have still had the capital to do it? Would he have wanted too? What if he had to pay an additional $15,000 per year to stay registered in all the states; another $10,000 to $20,000 to keep up with the law changes and case law? Could he have actually stayed in business?

If Ray Kroc in those early days had to pay $25,000 for financial audits could he have survived? If the number of accountants willing to do audits were cut in half due to current errors and omissions insurance and peer review costs would Ray Kroc have been able to juggle that during his first five years traveling the country and sleeping in hotel rooms, while building the business? Remember Ray Kroc was not married to wealth like the late Sam Walton who toured the country in a motor home looking at sites and studying the competition. Ray Kroc and Sam Walton both had to do it the hard way, but Ray Kroc was doing it out of cash flow. With the current problems in complying with all the accounting audit issues in franchising after the most recent Sarbaines Oxley Law causing delays of necessary audits in a timely fashion due to fear of violations in the accounting industry, demand for more audits in all sectors causing serious supply and demand issues getting an audit done on time for franchise registration renewals is tough?

Could Ray Kroc have accomplished this too, along with the additional costs and state registration deadlines? Wait we are not done yet. If Ray Kroc had to comply with all these proposed rule changes and existing rules and revise his disclosure documents each time an attorney created case law which might be detrimental to the over all system, could he have survived in the first five years? Yes or No? If Ray Kroc had to deal with all the different state laws and contradictions in Federal Trade Commission rules, could he have done it? Remember his first stores were in Cal-if-Forn-ia (Arnold Humor) and Illinois. I submit to you that Ray Kroc could not have done what he did and McDonalds would never have come to be. I also submit to you that NPR would be closing its doors and gone off the air this year if it were not for his wifes donations. Ronald McDonald House would not be available either. Millions of Americans would not have learned customer service or had that first job to teach them such important aspects business. The State of Idaho, where Simplot Potatoes grows its crop would not have made the profits and paid the tax income which allowed that great state to prosper. The Beef industry would have also been severely impacted, how would that industry have faired in the heated mass media hysteria of Mad Cow or the droughts causing cattle to be taken to early slaughter. Those frivolous lawsuits in Canada about being fat would leave our Canadian neighbors with nothing to bitch about and we wouldnt want that? Also the reality of the need for tort reform example of spilt coffee would never have existed? Do you doubt what I am saying? Well then Grinding It Out Ray Krocs book can be found still and it ought to be required reading for all Federal Trade Commission employees who have never had to make a payroll and any attorney who has never made a legitimate living in a business of their own before commentary on this proposed set of rules. It appears that the word smiths are out in full force and we are maintaining an on-going dialogue from a topic proposed in 1995, with comments in 1997 and 1999 at a time when much of the those comments are in fact irrelevant here in 2004. A more relevant discussion would be how best to separate out the business opportunity rules from the franchise rule and then close the Federal Trade Commissions franchising division all together since no problems perceived or known currently exist. Does anyone doubt this truth?

Perhaps another example, forget about Ray Kroc, the father of franchising for a moment, lets just say for the sake of argument that this current situation in the industry existed back then and Ray Kroc grew up an old bitter man and retired salesman? Forget that the McDonalds Big Mac is used by the International Monetary fund as a guideline for international cost of living standards in modern and developing nations. Think of the story death of a salesman and leave it at that. Put Ray Kroc in the same shoes as any of the current up and coming home grown entrepreneurial superstars of today, being stifled under a Tsunami of tort law and a Hurricane of over regulation. Why cant we end this storm, why are we unwilling to see the truth at the Federal Trade Commission? And that is just one of many agencies Ray Kroc would have to deal with today, think about it.

Teenagers and Stress: What Parents Can Do to Help

More and more parents are expressing their concerns about how to support their teenagers who are complaining about the stress in their lives.

What parents may not realize, is that what they do every day by providing healthy food, support, and a comforting home, provides the very stress-antidotes their teens need. Deborah Weinstock-Savoy, Ph.D.,a psychologist who specializes in working with families says The basic nurturing that parents offer in providing a loving and comfortable home is the first line of defense.

Weinstock-Savoy points out that home should be a place where kids can re-charge their batteries, feel safe and supported. When teenagers have the support they need, when they eat right and get enough sleep, they usually have much of what it takes to manage the stress they will confront.

Parents can help teens in some specific ways, too. Primarily this has to do with teaching, or coaching their teenagers toward problem solving. Parents need to engage the teens owns sense of what s/he needs, says Weinstock-Savoy. She says parents and their teenagers can explore this together, with the teen being asked to offer insight and suggestions, as usually kids have ideas about this. This is the direction parents need to take because it helps the teen develop necessary coping and problem-solving skills.

Assisting kids in becoming more self-aware is an extension of this thought. It may not be immediately obvious to kids, so parents should help guide them to a growing awareness of themselves, which will help them learn to identify situations, and solutions. Through this they begin to develop strategies that will be tools they will use for the rest of their lives.

While this family specialist makes these recommendations, she is quick to admit that sometimes parents are faced with kids who wont allow them to share their wisdom with them. This makes it important for parents to help ensure their teenager has other adults in whom s/he can confide and go to for advice. Parents need to identify for themselves who else is out there, who else will help provide advice, help their teens safe, and offer support. She calls this extending the mantle of support, and points out that this is as important for parents as it is for kids. Parents should know the adults in their teens life to some extent; knowing that they share your families values and will be providing sound advice is another way of providing support for your child, only this time its from behind the scenes.

What are the biggest sources of stress for teenagers? Peer relationships and managing school, according to Weinstock-Savoy. She points out that kids need to have a sense of belonging with their peers. This provides an important buffer and helps them deal with the stress they confront. Missing this, the resulting sense of loneliness serves to increases their stress. School, and all that entails, is often a source of stress for teenagers. And thirdly, the important developmental steps they are taking during adolescence in developing their identity also create stress. Although this is a more abstract concept, it is an important part of the life of teenagers.

Parents who are tuned in to their teenagers, sensitive in providing support, encouragement, love and a nurturing home environment are doing all the right things to help their kids learn to deal with the stress they confront in typical situations every day.

Why The Homeschool Craze?

Why do families homeschool? That is like asking the question, Why do families live in Orlando, Florida or Why do families have certain standards? Every family has a different reason or a number of reasons for all of these questions! If you asked 1000 homeschool parents why they choose to teach at home, although you may get some similar responses, I can guarantee that you would not find two families that have identical feelings on the matter!

No One Reason

That does not mean, however, that explaining why is impossible. Although each family has a different answer to this question, many of the motives are similar. Perhaps it is about family values. Perhaps it has to do with a childs particular learning style. Maybe it is about time time together and time for learning things that are important to the child. Or maybe it is simply about curriculum choice.

The homeschool adventure begins with a different focus for each family, but the advantages are pervasive: parents as value-setters, customized curricula, attainment of individual goals, and closer family ties.

1. Socialization Benefits: What? This is the main reason that people say you shouldnt homeschool! I contend, however, that homeschooling offers socialization benefits that public schools cant offer. By participating in community life, homeschooled children feel comfortable with a wide variety of people. They are not age-segregated all day and therefore, can interact with people of all ages. Many people who come into contact with homeschooled kids remark on how easy it is to talk with them.

2. Less Stress: Yes, homeschooling can be stressful, but it is a stress that can be managed by what you do at home. Those that homeschool find that the lack of nightly homework stress is a big relief! Add to that the fact that schedules are loosened no bus departures and arrivals, no specific attendance days, no particular hours and you definitely find a less stressed atmosphere.

3. Teach to the Child: A homeschooled child can be taught in a manner that is best for the child. They can learn the things that interest them most and develop talents in ways not possible in the confining structure of public school. Homeschooling encourages development of a child's own individuality.

This is just a sampling of the benefits of homeschooling. There are many, many more. The benefits are as individualistic as the reasons for homeschooling. Why? Because no two homeschooling families are the same!

Ukulele Chords - Learn To Play Amazing Grace With Tablature

You will learn to sing Amazing Grace with your own ukulele accompaniment in the key of C-major. We will use tabs so you will not need to know sheet music notation.

First you will have to take a look at the way you have tuned your ukulele. Some people don't care how they tune their ukulele as long as the strings are tuned together. It's okay as long as you are not playing together with another instrument.

But, in order to play the chords in C-major we presupposes that the you first string is tuned to an A. If you can find middle C on a piano you can play the notes up to A. C D E F G A. Right, there it is!

We will first take a look at the C-major chord. With the tab notation we will use it will look like this:

C-major: 0/4 0/3 0/2 3/1

Now you will learn to interpret this notation. The digit before the slash indicates the fret to press down. The digit after the slash shows you which string to play.

3/1 means, press down the third fret on string one. To play the chords to the first line of lyrics you will have to learn one more chord. Here is F-major:

F-major: 2/4 0/3 1/2 0/1

With these two chords we can play the first line of lyrics:

A-(C)mazing Grace, how (F)sweet the (C)sound

The chords to play are written before the syllable in the text where you are to strum it. Another way to notate the chord progression to play will look like this:

Strum once on every chord name and once more on the same chord for every following slash.

For the next line we need a third chord. Here is G7:

Time for the next line:

We will take the two last lines together as you now know how to read the chords:

To make music of the song with ukulele accompaniment it is important to be able to change between chords smoothly. I suggest that you work on the art of changing from one chord to another by choosing for exampel C and F.

Strum once on every chord and change to the next one until your fingers obey your command. To change from C to G7 I suppose that you play the C chord with your left hand ring finger. To get to G7 you can slide your ring finger to fret two on the first string.

After that you only have to place your left hand middle finger on the third string and your index on your second string.

Why Kids Tell Lies and What To Do About It

Catching your child in a lie is frustrating, painful and worrisome. What else does he lie about? How can I trust him? James Lehman, creator of The Total Transformation Program, explains the surprising reason why kids tell lies and a better way for parents to deal with it.

Q: When your child lies to you, it hurts. As parents, it makes us angry and we take it personally. We feel like we can never trust our child again. Why does lying cause such anger, pain and worry for parents? James: Parents are understandably very afraid of their children getting hurt and getting into trouble, but they have very little protection against these things as they send their kids out into the world. Kids learn from other kids and from media they see outside the home, and it makes parents feel unsafe because they cant control the information and ideas that are being presented to their children.

Lets face it. Information isnt just available to our kids; its injected into them. Bad ideas are pushed down our kids throats by their peers, by some adults, by the media. Its hard for a parent to keep control of their kids when this is happening, and protect them from their own harmful impulses and dangerous outside influences.

Your kids honesty becomes the connector between whats happening to him on the outside world and what happens at home. You need him to tell you honestly what happened today, so that you can honestly decide if thats best for him. You need him to tell you what hes doing so you can decide if thats going to help him meet his responsibilities now and in the future. When parents dont get the right information, theyre afraid theyll make the wrong choices for their kids.

When your kid lies, you start to see him as sneaky, especially if he continues to lie to you. You feel that hes going behind your back, that hes undermining you. We begin to think that our kids are bad. Because, certainly, if lying is bad, liars are bad. Its just that simple.

Parents should hold their kids responsible for lying. But the mistake parents make is they start to blame the kid for lying. Its considered immoral to lie. But when you look at your kid like hes a sneak and an operator whos undermining your authority, its a slippery slope that starts with You lie and ends up at Youre a bad person. I think that perception of your kid promotes more lying. If your child thinks you think hes bad, hes going to hide the truth from you even more, because he doesnt want be bad. Even though they are lying, kids dont want to disappoint their parents.

Q: Lets look at it from the childs perspective. Whats going in on a childs mind when they lie to their parents? James: Say youre driving on the interstate and the speed limit is 65 mph. You know that if you drive 65 mph on the interstate, thats the slowest anyone drives, and people fly by you, honk at you and calling you names. So you go seventy five miles an hourand a policeman stops you. He says, Ms. Jones, how fast were you driving? And most people say, Sixty five. Or, I thought I was doing sixty five, officer, or maybe a little over sixty five. Why are people dishonest like that? Because they understand that driving fast is forbidden. But they dont understand that its hurtful. We understand that its wrong to drive that fast and there are consequences. But we dont understand that it really hurts anybody and that it puts people at risk.

Its the same with kids. They know lying is forbidden. But they dont see it as hurtful. Not the way that parents see it as hurtful. So a kid will say, I know its wrong that I ate a sugar snack when Im not supposed to. But who does it hurt? I know its wrong that I traded my dried fruit for a Twinkie. But it doesnt really hurt anybody. I can handle it. Whats the big deal? Thats what the kid sees.

When they dont see it as hurtful, there are two different value systems operating: the familys value system that says this is forbidden and the kids value system that says if its not hurting anybody, what do you care? The kid rationalizes his actions and justifies his behavior with the idea that it doesnt hurt anybody. The outcome is a dishonest situation. A lie.

When you get to adolescence, of course, the stakes get much higher. But the thinking remains the same. Kids smoke pot and drink and say, Well it doesnt hurt anybody. My friends smoke pot and it doesnt hurt them. I know drinkings wrong, but my parents drink and it doesnt hurt them. I can handle it. Im older than my parents think I am. They know its forbidden. They either dont see it as hurtful, or they rationalize the hurt away.

Q: So whats the best way for parents to deal with lying, so that they dont feel hurt and resentful about it and so that the child learns not to lie? James: The first thing you have to do is be careful of is giving lies too much power. If you have a kid whos angry at you or who feels frustrated and powerless, and if he thinks he can get power over you by telling you a lie, hell use dishonesty to get that power. Hell withhold information and lie by omission when youre trying to get the truth. Hell give you little pieces of information, and that makes him feel powerful. Its a trap for parents. Honesty is important, but if you communicate that too strongly to your children, they will use that to have power over you. You have to keep these things a certain size so that theyre not used against you.

The second thing to remember is that you have to understand the power of the culture that kids go into. Its a very powerful culture that exerts a lot of pressure to fit in. They may feel guilty if they lie to their parents. But, again, theyre thinking, This isnt that hurtful, and my parents just dont understand. Of course, parents do understand. Theyre frightened, and they should be.

So I think that parents have to assume that kids are going to tell them lies, because theyre immature and they dont understand how hurtful these things are. Theyre also drawn towards excitement, and their parents arent. Its not like the good kids arent drawn to excitement and risk, and the bad kids are. Its not that the good kids dont lie and the bad kids do lie. Theyre all drawn to excitement, and theyll all have a tendency to distort the truth because theyre kids.

I think parents have to deal with lying the way a cop deals with speeding. If youre going too fast, he gives you a ticket. Hes not interested in a lot of explanations from you. Hes just going to give you a consequence. Look at it the same way with your child. He didnt tell the truth, whether the truth was distorted, omitted or withheld. There should simply be consequences for that. The first time you lie, you go to bed an hour early. The second time, you lose your phone. It should be something that the kid feels. You lose your phone for twenty four hours. You lose your phone for two days. You lose computer time or TV time.

The consequences have to make the child uncomfortable or they dont change anything. The idea is that the next time hes faced with telling you the truth or lying, hell recall how uncomfortable he was when he did the consequence for lying, and hell tell you the truth instead.

The consequence should be about the lying. If theres a separate consequence for the incident, that should come down separately. If you come home later than your curfew and you tell me the truth, you may still lose going out Friday night, but you wont lose your phone. If you lie to me, you lose both.

Parents should not get into the morality of it. Just be clear. Lying is wrong, its hurtful and, in our home, we tell the truth. But dont make it a moral issue. Make it a technical issue. You broke the law. You broke the rules. These are your consequences.

When a cop writes me a ticket, he doesnt follow me home or argue with me. He hands me my ticket and he drives away. Approach the consequences for lying the same way. Dont argue about it or get into a big discussion. Discuss it in a structured way: What were you trying to accomplish by doing that? Not Why did you lie? You know how much lying hurts me. Just ask what he was trying to accomplish, then point out that lying is not the way to solve his problem. Compliance is the way to solve it. Talk about it after things have cooled down, not in the heat of the moment. Explain what will happen if he lies again. If you lie to me about the dance, you're not going to the next dance and Im taking your phone for twenty four hours. Just keep it really simple.

Spyware

Spyware is camouflaged software installed without user knowledge or consent. It compromises the user's experience with pop-up ads; tracking their web activities and keystrokes, and it can transmit sensitive information like credit card and social security numbers back to the manufacturer. Spyware steals network resources, and the end result is the network being slowed down to a crawl or virtually stopped all together. The program sneaks in by attaching itself to "free" downloads like calendar applications and the like (porn sites, games, etc). Additionally, it often manifests in hard-to-access system folders, and resists extraction. It is autonomous but not a virus. Viruses are fleeting. Spyware has stamina.

Transmission:

Spyware can be transmitted via e-mail, although it is not spam. It can change your browser homepage and transmit from the Web onto your system with no provocation whatsoever. Hence, the term "drive-by download." Spyware is elusive. It can affect some systems and not others, dependent on individual configuration. Some systems are more permeable, and get infested by visiting certain websites. File sharing applications like Kazaa, a peer-to-peer networking system with virtually no security can transmit spyware.

Adware:

Spyware has an abbreviated, less intrusive version called adware. This version generates targeted pop-up ads, but is permission-based. By agreeing to end user licensing agreements without actually reading them, users subject themselves to adware. This practice is comparable to online telemarketing, but subject to no formal restrictions.

Detection Software:

The proliferation of spy/adware has propagated a lucrative new industry of a different kind of solution provider, or "spy-buster." Spy-busters like Ad-aware, Spychecker, Spyware, and Webroot are dramatically increasing their customer base since the advent of spy/adware. They depend on customers identifying new variants of offending files and new types of malware so that they can update their solution products. Egregious advertisers churn out invasive tools as fast as solution providers can update their products. They mislead users implying they can wipe out offending files, then merely replace it with their own product.

As if that weren't bad enough, now a "watcher" file transmits along with the offending code; generating a monotonous loop until no other option exists but to agree to a download. Some spyware even re-installs itself with every re-boot.

Summary:

Users can arm themselves against this cyber-predator by taking precautionary measures. Users are under the misconception they are protected by anti-virus utilities. Anti-viral products only remove spyware if they are expressly configured to do so. Some solutions sweep away virtual footprints; some actually extricate offending programs. Users must take the time to comprehend their browser's security settings. Settings must be high enough to protect systems from automatic installations, which constitute a fundamental invasion of privacy. However, what is the expectation of privacy in cyberspace? The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is asking this and many similar questions in court, and has just passed anti-spyware legislation. Meanwhile, users should only install software from a trusted source, or download for free at their own risk.

What's the Deal With Organic?

People often ask me if eating all organic is really necessary. The truth is it is impossible to do and really only an ideal. I like to use the term organic in many cases just because the word natural has been cheapened by the food industry.

Corporations are now allowed to put the term natural on products that are not natural at all and even contain chemicals.

My message is a simple one. Free your self of processed foods, chemicals and drugs and you will enjoy a better quality of life. If you could afford to eat entirely organic this would be wonderful but is not practical for most people.

I tell them to take the money they would spend on these supplements and instead buy fish, meats or chicken and cook, portion and freeze them to make convenient whole-food supplements. New Spyware Bill Targets Botnets, Increases Funding for Cyber Security

In yet another attempt at fighting the war on spyware, adware and viruses, the Cyber Security Enhancement Act was introduced to Congress on May 14th. This new act is a major step forward in the battle against botnet attacks.

Botnets are groups of computers that hackers have gained access to illegally. The hackers then utilize these groups of computers as tools to commit illegal activities over the Internet. Botnets can be used for spamming, installing illegal spyware on computer systems or identity theft.

Good antivirus software will find malicious bots on your computer and defend against bot attacks. But, hackers are growing more and more sophisticated and security software must be continually updated to keep up with botnet technology. You may be the victim of botnets if your computer is running smoothly and quickly one moment and then immediately starts acting strange. For instance, it stutters or slows down from time to time. With botnets, hackers can use your computer for illegal activities, even while youre innocently surfing the Internet.

The bill, introduced to Congress by Representatives Steve Chabot, an Ohio Republican and Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, would allow prosecutors to pursue racketeering charges against cybercriminal groups, expand sentencing of cybercrime to allow for forfeiture of property, and add $30 million a year to the budget for fighting cybercrime.

The bill also calls for a broader definition of electronic data theft related to communication, and seeks to expand the current cyber extortion statute.

This legislation comes on the heels of several new developments in the use of botnets:

Peer-to-peer botnets are now being used. These work the same way as file-sharing programs, making them difficult to detect and shutdown because there is not one centralized point. The Storm worm was a recent example of this kind of botnet.
An application called Zunker was recently discovered to be controlling botnets across 54 different countries. The botnet controlling Zunker was recently used to send a massive wave of spam containing the Alanchum Trojan.
A 21-year-old hacker was recently sentenced to 57 months in prison for infecting nearly 400,000 computers for botnet use.
The recent Warezov, Bagle, and Zhelatin worms were all created by rival botnets.
Recent findings by the FBI uncovered compromised routers being sold for $2.00 and unsecure host computers being constantly traded online by cybercrooks for stolen credit card and Social Security numbers.

Botnets first came into use around 1993 with the use of IRC bots. But, it wasnt until 2002 when the Agobot variant of botnets came to the forefront that botnets really became a significant threat. The Agobot spyware worm allows others to access a compromised computer, downloads code from the Internet, installs itself in the registry, exploits system vulnerabilities and scans the computers network for other vulnerabilities and weak passwords.

This new Cyber Security Enhancement Act and the recent H.R. 964 Spyware Act (on its way to the U.S. House of Representatives) show the Federal Governments increasing awareness and concern about virus, spyware, and Internet privacy issues. With malware getting more sophisticated and evasive every day and Internet identity theft on the rise; this concern is certainly warranted. Hopefully, other countries will follow this lead and help make the global Internet a safer place to surf.

Dial-up service is not the ideal internet service for an internet based business because it is generally very slow and make taking care of business transactions a burdensome process. There are also some convenience and cost issues associated with dial-up service that may be hindering to an internet business operator as well as some undesirable limitations.

Choosing an internet service provider and internet service is obviously one of the first steps to launching and running an internet based business. For your internet business to be productive as well as time and cost efficient, making the decision about your internet services deserves some thought and consideration.

There are several types of internet services. The very basic internet service is dial-up service. Other types of internet services include broadband or high-speed internet services. Since dial-up service uses a phone line, it can be a burden if you only have one phone line because you won't be able to make or accept phone calls during the time that you are online.

This can be a very burdensome issue for an internet business if you need to access things online while talking on the phone with customers or with technical support representatives - it simply can't be done.

If you have no option but to use dial-up service, having a phone line for the dial-up service that is separate from your voice line is crucial.

Also, if you are limited to the use of dial-up service, check to see what dial-up service options are available to improve the speed and reliability of your dial-up service internet connection. Dial-up service modems come in different speeds with 56k being top of the line.

Lower level dial-up service modems will be even more inefficient. Accelerated dial-up service is an option to standard dial-up service if high-speed service is not a possibility.

Accelerated dial-up service also uses a telephone line and a modem, but through the use of compression software, it can increase the speed of dial-up service lessening the speed related burdens by making web pages load faster and enabling you to upload and download files more efficiently.

Problems With Acid Reflux Heartburn Medications

Many acid reflux heartburn suffers make it through life on one antacid pill after another assuming that heartburn and ant-acid medications are safe to use indefinitely. Sadly this may not be the case. Lifestyle changes probably are the most effective means of curing most acid reflux heartburn disorders. However we live in the take a pill and forget it society that does not consider the consequences of long-term ant-acid heartburn medication.

Almost all antacid medications consist of either aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, sodium bicarbonate or some combination of these chemical compounds to neutralize the acid in your stomach. The downside of neutralizing stomach acid is that your stomach can no longer efficiently digest your food. It also causes problems for the good bacteria that live in your digestive track. When your stomach senses that acid levels are being reduced it automatically makes more hydrochloric acid. This of course causes acid reflux heartburn symptoms to increase. This cycling is hard on your digestive system and makes your life miserable.

Anytime you take any kind of medication you leave yourself open to side effects. This can be minor or in some extreme cases life threatening. Many people do not know that some antacid leave you more vulnerable to food poisoning. The use of antacids affects the levels of good bacteria that normally protect the body from bacterial invasions. Certain enzyme secretions necessary for proper digestion are also affected by the use of antacids. They can also interfere with the absorption of vitamins, micronutrients and calcium compounds.

A very serious consideration that is largely overlooked by antacid users is the adverse reaction with other medicine that the acid reflux heartburn suffer is also taking. These include blood thinners, corticosteroids, diabetic medications, antibiotics, heart medicine, anti-anxiety medications and simple anti-inflammatories. Since you can buy most antacids over the counter most people never bother to consult their physician before taking them. This practice can lead to tragic consequences.

The most commonly prescribed acid reflux heartburn medicines including Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid are only intended to be used for short periods. Supreme Court Decides Against Grokster In File Sharing Decision

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled peer-to-peer sites such as Grokster, Kazaa and Morpheus can be held responsible for copyright infringement by their users. In a rare 9-0 decision in favor of Plaintiff MGM, the Justices held that a business distributing technology with the active intent of promoting copyright violations could not escape liability for subsequent copyright infringements. Although unanimous, the ruling is a strained effort to isolate file sharing from other industries.

In arguing their position, Grokster had relied on previous rulings regarding VHS technology. In a 1984 case, the Supreme Court ruled the makers of VHS recorders could not be held liable for copyright piracy by users of the machines. The Court specifically ruled that VHS and any other technology with "substantially non-infringing uses" could not be held responsible if individuals illegally taped movies or shows off of television. Indeed, lower courts had ruled in favor of Grokster using the VHS ruling as precedent. So, what's the difference between the two technologies?

In a somewhat tortured reasoning, the Justices distinguished the two cases by focusing on the "intent" of the companies. If a company distributes a technology with the intent that it be used by third parties for copyright infringement, then it is responsible. "Intent" is shown by a company making a "clear expression" of such intent or taking affirmative steps in said direction.

Writing the opinion, Justice Souter explained:

"There is no evidence that Grokstermade an effort to filter copyrighted material from users' downloads or otherwise impede the sharing of copyrighted files,"

He further explained,

"The company showed itself to be aiming to satisfy a known source of demand for copyright infringement, the market comprising former Napster users."

No Nail In The Coffin

The entertainment industry is trumpeting the end of file sharing. This ruling is no such thing. To understand the impact of the ruling, a brief discussion of legal procedure is necessary.

The Supreme Court decision does not find Grokster liable for anything. Instead, it simply reverses a lower court ruling that Grokster could not possibly be found liable. As a result, the case will return to the trial court and eventually go to trial. In the trial, the Plaintiff will have to prove that Grokster distributed file-sharing software with the intent that it be used for copyright infringement. Proving such a case will not be easy since intent is a vague concept.

In Closing

The decision of the Supreme Court provides the entertainment industry with a basis for pursuing file sharing companies. Is file sharing at an end? Not likely.

We know how difficult it can be working with ADHD children, so here are your teacher tips for the week, brought to you by the ADHD Information Library and ADDinSchool.com. Here are some tips on presenting your lesson ADHD students. Remember, the best interventions are the ones that will help all of your students be more successful, not just the ADHD students.

Try to provide an outline with the key concepts or vocabulary prior to lesson presentation. The students can follow along and see the main concepts and terms as you present the lesson.

ADHD kids are easily bored, even by you. Try to increase the pace of lesson presentation. Resist the temptation to get sidetracked. Get excited about your lesson! And communicate your excitement to your students!

Include a variety of learning activities during each lesson. Use multi-sensory presentations, but screen audio?visual aids to be sure that distractions are kept to a minimum. For example, be sure interesting pictures and or sounds relate directly to the material to be learned. Many teachers are now using PowerPoint presentations or Astound presentations for their students with great effect.

Provide self-correcting materials for immediate feedback to the ADD ADHD student.

Use computer assisted instruction, both in terms of the student at a computer, and also in terms of presenting information via PowerPoint presentations.

Use cooperative learning activities, particularly those that assign each teen in a group a specific role or piece of information that must be shared with the group. Pair students to check work. Provide peer tutoring to help ADD ADHD student's review concepts.

Let ADD ADHD students share recently learned concepts with struggling peers. Use peer tutoring whenever possible. Older students to help your attention deficit students, and perhaps allowing him to tutor a younger student.

The more exciting a subject is to an ADD ADHD students, the better he will learn.

Why Judging is Good Not Bad - Critical Thinking and the Role of Parents

Recently some mothers of young children engaged in a discussion about passing judgment. It was unanimous; they would all teach their children that being judgmental of other people is wrong. They would be sure not to model judgmental behavior and they would correct their children if they caught them being judgmental. Sounds good in theory

but, shouldnt children be taught and encouraged to be judgmental?

This article is not advocating teaching children to be judgmental of people based on skin color, physical ability, religion, intellectual, or economic differences, of course. It is about teaching children about values and behavior and assessing situations.

judgment Pronunciation[juhj-muh nt] noun 1.an act or instance of judging. 2.the ability to judge, make a decision, or form an opinion objectively, authoritatively, and wisely, esp. in matters affecting action; good sense; discretion: a man of sound judgment.

According to the dictionary definition of the word judgment (above), the word embraces one of the most important concepts that parents need teach their children: critical thinking.

Critical thinking consists of mentally evaluating information, analyzing that information and forming a judgment which leads to smart action. A good example of using critical thinking is when a driver applies the brakes when speeding towards the edge of a cliff. The driver notes the cliff edge ahead, gauges his speed and using good sense, slows the vehicle down avoiding disaster.

Critical thinking and making judgments allow children to self-regulate their social, emotional, and physical responses to outside stimuli and stay in control. If a child is put into a situation in which he must choose between good and bad, he can make an assessment of the situation, and using the skills he has been taught by his parents, make a good choice. Children can be taught to think a few steps ahead, envision the consequences of their actions, and make appropriate choices based on the values and morals taught by their parents. Parents can take a proactive role in teaching critical thinking by discussing topics that children will most likely encounter as they develop; such as peer pressure, failure in sports, stress due to grades, managing spending and handling relationships. Role playing can be a great tool in preparing kids in advance for likely situations. Parents can use their wisdom to coach their children about how to respond in certain instances.

Parents should not assume that their children understand how to think critically and judge situations. Childrens brains do not fully develop until well into their teenage years (or beyond). Because of this they are often unable to make certain connections. In addition, due to their immaturity they do not have the capacity to understand the impact of their decisions. A sixteen year old boy who is adept at video games may jump into a high performance car and within moments slam it into a tree, not understanding that he doesnt really know how to control the car even though he has been driving the same car on the screen for years (unfortunately, a true story).

Over the course of the past twenty years, with the introduction of the internet, society has become information driven. With all of the benefits that technology has given, it has also exposed people to loads of false content. This is very difficult for children to understand because they see the world more concretely than adults and have little reason not to believe all of what they see and hear. For example they are easily duped by pedophiles posing as thirteen year old children on social networking sites. They believe rumors and spread them like wildfire about any individual or situation. Now more than ever, learning and using critical thinking and passing judgment is crucial, especially for children who are not old enough to understand the dire consequences of poor decision making.

Not passing judgment turns good and bad into moral equivalents. The distinction between the two states is removed and suddenly there is no line to cross; everything is acceptable.

It has become politically incorrect to distinguish between good behavior and bad behavior. Parents feel hesitant about saying no and disciplining. However, not drawing a line between appropriate and inappropriate does a great disservice to children. Teaching children to choose friends wisely is a difficult but essential lesson parents must be willing to teach their kids. Using discretion when choosing friends and picking friends with good character and high moral fiber, can keep kids on the right path and headed towards achieving their goal and dreams.

If parents want to instill good values, ethics and morals in their children, they need to have the courage to go against the social tide and teach their children how to judge and make choices based on the morals and values that they have been raised with. Perhaps most difficult, this includes making judgments about the right kinds of people to associate ones self with, in order to surround oneself with strong influences and people with common, strong values. Teaching children to think critically and judge their circumstances gives kids a leg up in a world that is barraging them with information and temptations, some good and some not so good.

How to Search for Assets - Part One

People hide assets for a variety of reasons that range from personal to business in nature, but essentially they have property or money that they do not want discovered. Hiding of assets is not always a sign of criminal intent, but just as often it shows a moral or ethical failing in a subjects character in that they feel there is a reason to hide all or a portion of their wealth from scrutiny. This article delves into the concept of hidden assets and details a methodology for uncovering such property or wealth.

WHY CONDUCT AN ASSETS SEARCH?

There are clearly situations of a business or personal nature in which it is essential to check for the possibility of hidden assets. Knowledge of such assets can make a big difference in the establishment of grounds for particular types of interpersonal actions or the furthering of certain business relationships. And of course the law enforcement community needs to monitor underworld activities, a part of which is watching for laundered or hidden assets, especially those that might end up being removed to offshore accounts. Thus, an asset search is vital to full disclosure of resources in a variety of matters both civil and criminal. The primary reasons for an asset search in the private or family sector are evaluated below:

Entering into a New Business Venture If one is considering investing in a new business, bringing a new investor into an existing company or contemplating a merger between companies, it is essential to conduct a thorough background check on the individual or corporation. Prior to Entering into a Lawsuit It is important to conduct an assets search prior to filing suit against an individual or company to determine what assets or regular income is present in the event a judgment is ordered by the court (see below). It is not worth the cost of legal fees to file a suit against a person or company that will be unable to pay any court-ordered sum. It is also important to determine what assets or property could be attached on an uncontested basis once a judgment is issued, assuming victory in the suit. If the entity to be sued has nothing of value that can be taken, there is no point in entering into a suit.

Collecting on a Judgment When the court order a sum of money to be paid as part of a civil action, a judgment is issued, this is simply a court order for the payment of funds. It is rare for the defendant to simply pay the amount ordered on the spot. The judicial system only orders payment, but collection is the responsibility of the plaintiff. A judgment will stand for ten years, but can be extended to become permanent. However, this requires that the defendant, who is now considered to be the debtor, be questioned in a deposition or hearing under oath regarding their financial status. If the debtor is going to surrender an item of property such as an automobile or boat, be certain to do an asset search before taking possession. If there are any liens against the property, taking possession may also bring with it liability for the lien.

Divorce The finances involved in a divorce can often become rather complicated. It is not uncommon for a spouse to hide assets that would be open to dispute. An asset search of the party being divorced is very important to be certain that all assets are accounted for.

Child Support/Alimony Public child support enforcement agencies are ill- equipped to locate parents who evade their child support obligations. Quite often the errant parent will attempt to hide assets, thus pleading an inability to meet child support or alimony payments. In child support cases, once the parent is located, information regarding their wages or any hidden assets should be given to the proper child support enforcement agency that can then facilitate collection.

Contestation of a Will Quite often personal assets may be hidden and not disclosed in a will. Potential beneficiaries or those entitled to a claim against the estate should search for the possibility of hidden assets.

WHAT ARE ASSETS?

Everything that is owned is potentially an asset. Stocks, bonds, real estate, money in the bank, automobiles, RVs, boats, airplanes and even household furnishings are all considered assets. Personal assets are classified as either being personal property or real property.

Tangible Personal Property This includes vehicles, equipment, inventory, telephone systems, computers, bank accounts, stocks, bonds and paid insurance policies with cash value. Any items of value that a person or a company buys or comes into possession of constitute a tangible asset. Ownership is determined by possession unless the property must be licensed such as vehicles, boats or airplanes. For those types of property, the ownership is determined by title and registration. For all other property, a sales receipt or cancelled check can be used to determine ownership, but the courts have been guided by the belief that possession is nine tenths of the law.

Intangible Personal Property This category includes patents, royalty agreements, promissory notes, contracts, accounts receivable, wages or other income.

Real Property All homes, condominiums, apartment or commercial buildings and land are classed as real property. Only a residence that is protected by a homestead exemption is exempt from being attached. All other real estate is subject to claim through the courts.

HOW TO INITIATE AN ASSETS SEARCH

The Initial Phase of Investigation Before attempting to locate assets through public records, it is essential to have the subjects correct name and address. In some local records searches, the name alone will suffice without the need for an address. Initially it is important to determine that the person is who and what he or she claims to be.

It is vital to find out not only where the individual lives, but also their place of employment, if dealing with an individual. It is also worthwhile to obtain the names of close relatives because often people trying to hide assets will place them in the name of a family member. Paper trails will exist if any significant property was transferred, and here is where a deed transfer can be traced through country records.

Under federal law, each person is entitled to one social security number. A SSN is but one of several identifiers which connect a person when establishing a positive identification. The others are, DOB, and addresses.

LOCATING ASSETS

Creditors, investors and government entities have the greatest capability in locating assets, especially in cases where an individual or corporation owes monies that are not being repaid. The most adept creditor is the Internal Revenue Service. Their auditors and field agents are experts in locating assets to satisfy levies, liens, tax fraud and evasion matters. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Resolution Trust Corporation, the Small Business Administration, student loan authorities, bankruptcy trustees and state departments of revenue are also expert in locating hidden assets. Professional skip-tracers and any individual who takes the time to conduct the searches necessary to locate the assets of both persons and companies can employ many of the same methods that the government uses. Listed below are the important sources for such information:

National Death Index The Social Security Administrations Death Index should always be checked to see if, when and where a subject may have died. If an estate was filed, the most likely location is the state or country where death occurred. Any county courthouse database contains copies of wills entered into probate.

Income/Wages A major asset that can be attached or garnished is a persons wages. In collecting on a judgment, child support payments or divorce, it is important to know what property a potential defendant owns and what income or wages are earned. The power of the court can order payment on a judgment, child support or alimony, but it does not use its authority to actually collect as per its orders.

Finding a Defendants Place of Employment Professional skip-tracers often conduct surveillance on a subject by discretely following the person to his or her place of employment. Discretion is the key to conducting such an undercover operation. If the subject is aware of the make or color of a vehicle being driven by the one conducting the operation, it could prove to be a wasted effort. A rental vehicle or one driven by a friend or associate can negate this problem.

To actually verify employment, a call or visit to the employer under any number of pretexts can glean information regarding the persons salary or pay date. He is buying a car from me and I want to verify his employment and the amount of money he makes, is one simple ploy. And if receiving an answer, then ask, Does he or she get paid weekly or biweekly? To obtain more in depth information, one can feign being a future employer. Then it may be possible to ask such questions as, Is he or she in line for a promotion or a bonus? or How long has he or she been on the job? Employers are often quite candid when they think they are talking to a peer.

Unearned Income This is an important source of revenue and includes money that comes from rental property, dividends or interest on stocks or bonds. This information may be more difficult to obtain, but it is income that should be reported on federal and state tax returns.

Subpoena of Business Records If it becomes necessary to use the courts to obtain information, a subpoena of the subjects employment records by means of a Business Records Subpoena will reveal payroll checks that have been cashed. On the endorsement side it is often possible to find the name of the individuals bank and the account number unless the checks were cashed for currency.

CHECKING PUBLIC RECORDS

Public records available in city halls, county courthouses and at state repositories contain valuable information that is essentially public information available to all who inquire. However, one needs to know how to obtain the types of documents that will reveal asset holdings. And herein lies the challenge.

Local Level Searches Always start a search at the city or county level where most documents regarding real property, corporate data, UCC filings, divorce and community property proceedings as well as probate and motor vehicle information are to be found. Within these records may be found descriptions of real property and the make, model and license numbers of vehicles.

Search Jurisdictions There are over 4,300 jurisdictions in the United States that store records that can be useful to those seeking to locate assets. Most of these jurisdictions are at the municipal and county level, and each sets its own rules governing public access. These are the records that prove to be the initial basis for any asset search. The following list of jurisdictions also provides the types of information available:

Secretary of States Office Corporation records, UCC filings

Search Parameters There are basic details that one needs to be aware of when conducting records searches. This section describes the types of information available by category of property.

Real Property The best documented of all assets is real property. Records are kept at the county level at either the County Recorders Office or an office devoted to handling the registration of deeds. Real property records are indexed by the name of the property owner, but generally cross-indexed by the property address. The records include property jurisdictions, location, deeds of trust, liens, and information regarding recent transactions such as mortgage lender, title company and attorneys involved in such transactions.

When checking on a piece of property, it is important to look for quit claim deeds, as these are often filed when a piece of property is transferred to a family member or friend to be hidden. In such a search, it is helpful to know the wifes maiden name, as often property is transferred to in-laws as a means of hiding an important real estate asset.

The market value of real property is not easily determined from tax assessments or mortgage balances. Consultation with a real estate broker will help to determine the actual value of a piece of property in question.

Motor Vehicles The Department of Motor Vehicles will provide information regarding ownership, normally charging a fee for this data. Vehicles are registered either under the individuals name or, in some states, that of a company. Once again, it is important to check under the names of family members to whom a motor vehicle could have been initially listed or later transferred if there has been an attempt to hide valuable property. Motor vehicle titles will also show if there is any lien holder on the vehicle.

Boats In each state, the natural resources department will have information regarding boats or other water-operated vessels that are owned by individuals or companies. Once again it is important to check under the names of any parties to whom such property could have been transferred. Boats or other water vessels can be attached by court order providing that proper ownership can be established. The title information regarding boats is public record just as is motor vehicle information.

Aircraft The registration of aircraft is made through the Federal Aviation Administration. This information is similar in nature to that of motor vehicles. It is therefore important to check under the name of the individual or company to determine ownership.

Corporate Property Corporations, unlike individuals, have no property exemptions with regard to seizure for payment of debt. Information regarding the corporations operations and personnel is available from the Secretary of States office in all states. Some states will furnish information regarding directors, officers or principals of a corporation. Most of the information available is based upon what was filed by those who formed or presently manage the corporation. Many states do not require verification of the identification of those who apply to form a corporation. On average, more than 500,000 new corporations are founded each year in the United States.

THE IMPORTANCE OF UNIFORM COMMERCIAL CODE (UCC) FILINGS

The Uniform Commercial Code is a vital source when investigating business dealings. The law requires that a financial statement be filed whenever transactions take place that involve the use of personal property as collateral for a loan or lease. There is much valuable information in UCC filings that can serve as clues for the furthering of an investigation into assets.

There are over 8 million UCC filings completed each year. On average over 4 million parcels of real property will be transferred or are used for collateral. Likewise, millions of parcels of commercial real estate are traded or sold each year.

Always begin a search of UCC filings in the county where the subject in question resides. These records are indexed by the name of the debtor, and they also list the names of secured parties with regard to the debt. Each filing also requires an accurate description of collateral being used as security for the loan or lease. If a third party has guaranteed a loan or lease, the individual or business name will also be included in the filing.

Banks, leasing companies or individuals who have financially backed a business enterprise are excellent sources of information. They are often willing to divulge information when questioned. They may be capable of providing important details regarding other types of business arrangements or assets not specified in the UCC filings. In addition, they often can provide a picture of the individual or company pattern of doing business. They may even be able to provide names of stockholders, partners or family members who have provided financial backing. When a bank has provided a loan, there is a strong likelihood that the debtor also conducts his or her regular business or personal dealings at the same institution.

UCC filings remain active for a minimum of five years, but they can be extended. The filing in question may include a copy of a loan application from the secured party or a copy of the loan check made out to the debtor. An individual debtor generally deposits the loan check into the same account that is used for depositing payroll checks, spouses payroll check, stock dividend checks, rental income checks and other sources of personal revenue. If a debtor is attempting to hide any transactions, a common ploy is to close one account and transfer funds into a new account, and often the new account will be at the same bank. This provides a document trail that can be followed. To obtain a copy of a loan check or of the debtors bank records, a subpoena is necessary.

LOCATING BANK ACCOUNTS

A bank account is highly liquid and is the easiest asset to attach. The most commonly asked question is, Does the person who owes the money have an account at a particular bank? Unfortunately there is no central database that maintains bank account numbers. Prior to 1999, locating bank account information was the most controversial area in a search for assets, but new banking regulations have brought about significant changes in data availability. Prior to the banking changes, a variety of techniques such as use of credit reports, information subpoenas and pretext calling were used to uncover bank account information. Under the new law, pretext calls no longer are permitted when attempting to obtain account information. Bank customers now have greater protection from searches. However, once a bank account has been located and verified with either social security or tax ID numbers, it can be attached in payment of court ordered judgments.

Many people with means have more than one bank account, insurance policy, brokerage account or safety deposit box. An individual tax return is a good source of information regarding any type of account that pays interest. A subpoena is required to retrieve tax returns.

Attitudes to Wireless Broadband in the UK

A recent survey has shown that many broadband users are missing out on the full potential of their internet because of common misconceptions according to a recent survey (BroadbandChoices.co.uk, 2007).

Unaware of the ease in getting a wireless broadband (WiFi) router, more than a quarter of UK subscribers think that they cannot go wireless because their provider doesnt offer this kind of package. In actual fact, there is no such thing as a wireless package where a different kind of broadband is piped into someones home all thats needed is a WiFi router. Once it is plugged into the modem, the wireless signal will be emitted and users can surf the internet cable-free.

This relatively common misconception shows that customers are overly reliant on their internet providers for both information and hardware, not knowing that it is relatively cheap and easy to buy and set up their own wireless routers and home networks.

It is misapprehensions such as this that are stopping broadband users from getting the most out of their internet packages or from becoming less dependent on their providers.

A further 44 per cent of respondents blamed their fear of the technicalities involved in setting up a WiFi connection, but again, this is unjustified since ISPs can send out pre-configured routers that users just plug in and connect. Again, this dependency leaves consumers less likely to switch provider a move that can save them a lot of money and even get them a free wireless router.

31 per cent said that they were worried about their personal details such as bank account numbers being at risk.

On a positive note however, 88 per cent of those currently without a wireless connection were planning on getting it in the coming year, proving that they had not been scared off by groundless reports in the media that WiFi poses a health risk cited by only four per cent as the reason that they did not have it.

Asked what they thought of their wireless connections, some reported connection problems but the majority of users said that they loved the ease of use, flexibility and lack of wires. One respondent said: Its great to sit in the garden and enjoy the sun and surf, while another added: I can sit downstairs watching the horse racing on the TV, and while sitting on the sofa, having a cup of tea, effortlessly place a bet using my laptop.

In fact, few statisticians would disagree with the exploration of Smalltalk, which embodies the natural principles of artificial intelligence. We confirm that Lamport clocks and Internet QoS can agree to realize this objective.

1 Introduction

Recent advances in authenticated algorithms and client-server theory are based entirely on the assumption that web browsers and A* search are not in conflict with superblocks. It might seem counterintuitive but fell in line with our expectations. The notion that cyberneticists agree with ubiquitous modalities is always well-received. Continuing with this rationale, this follows from the study of context-free grammar. The emulation of linked lists would improbably degrade low-energy epistemologies [13].

In order to fulfill this goal, we use mobile algorithms to disprove that interrupts and Web services are entirely incompatible. Such a hypothesis is always a robust purpose but fell in line with our expectations. Similarly, the basic tenet of this method is the analysis of superblocks. Indeed, SCSI disks [31] and multicast applications have a long history of collaborating in this manner. This is an important point to understand. this combination of properties has not yet been enabled in related work.

Mathematicians often enable heterogeneous algorithms in the place of the construction of superpages. Existing wireless and self-learning frameworks use adaptive configurations to synthesize the World Wide Web. Contrarily, this solution is rarely well-received. Our system runs in W(n) time. For example, many methodologies allow knowledge-based methodologies. Here, we make three main contributions. To begin with, we prove that although SMPs can be made client-server, decentralized, and peer-to-peer, the much-touted highly-available algorithm for the refinement of A* search by Ito et al. is Turing complete. We concentrate our efforts on showing that 32 bit architectures and simulated annealing are mostly incompatible. Third, we verify not only that public-private key pairs [4] and IPv7 are continuously incompatible, but that the same is true for access points.

The roadmap of the paper is as follows. We motivate the need for DHTs. Next, we validate the study of model checking. We argue the understanding of SMPs. On a similar note, to overcome this quandary, we show that the seminal large-scale algorithm for the construction of DNS by Taylor [25] runs in Q( logn ! ) time. Ultimately, we conclude.

2 Related Work

Our approach is related to research into the lookaside buffer, A* search, and Web services [4,12]. This work follows a long line of existing approaches, all of which have failed [27,17]. Similarly, our framework is broadly related to work in the field of linear-time electrical engineering by Robinson and Johnson, but we view it from a new perspective: the exploration of consistent hashing. In the end, note that our methodology is maximally efficient; clearly, our algorithm follows a Zipf-like distribution [36].

Though we are the first to construct omniscient configurations in this light, much prior work has been devoted to the refinement of e-commerce [16,11,20,30]. The only other noteworthy work in this area suffers from ill-conceived assumptions about the visualization of gigabit switches [29]. A recent unpublished undergraduate dissertation [8,16,5,6,12] described a similar idea for embedded theory [24]. Our algorithm is broadly related to work in the field of networking by Bhabha [35], but we view it from a new perspective: systems [23]. Even though we have nothing against the previous solution by Sun et al. [22], we do not believe that method is applicable to electrical engineering [25,26,34,2,10]. Clearly, if performance is a concern, our methodology has a clear advantage.

While we know of no other studies on the transistor, several efforts have been made to investigate telephony [16] [1]. Further, a robust tool for visualizing lambda calculus [22,18,7] proposed by K. Martinez fails to address several key issues that our methodology does solve [3]. Continuing with this rationale, recent work by Wilson et al. [15] suggests a system for improving homogeneous archetypes, but does not offer an implementation. Thus, despite substantial work in this area, our approach is ostensibly the application of choice among researchers [9]. This solution is more flimsy than ours.

3 Architecture

Our research is principled. We hypothesize that the analysis of massive multiplayer online role-playing games can observe Markov models without needing to store homogeneous communication. This is an unfortunate property of our heuristic. Consider the early design by Davis; our framework is similar, but will actually achieve this ambition. This may or may not actually hold in reality. Further, rather than studying relational algorithms, Hob chooses to locate linked lists. See our prior technical report [16] for details [33].

Reality aside, we would like to visualize an architecture for how Hob might behave in theory. This seems to hold in most cases. Any confusing development of the partition table will clearly require that scatter/gather I/O and evolutionary programming [21] are often incompatible; our method is no different. We estimate that operating systems can request B-trees without needing to provide expert systems. This seems to hold in most cases. Therefore, the design that Hob uses is not feasible. Our algorithm relies on the important model outlined in the recent acclaimed work by Takahashi in the field of programming languages. Further, we ran a week-long trace showing that our architecture is unfounded. The question is, will Hob satisfy all of these assumptions? Unlikely.

4 Implementation

The centralized logging facility contains about 4287 instructions of Prolog. Since Hob is built on the principles of theory, coding the codebase of 67 Simula-67 files was relatively straightforward. While we have not yet optimized for security, this should be simple once we finish programming the server daemon.

5 Results

How would our system behave in a real-world scenario? We did not take any shortcuts here. Our overall evaluation method seeks to prove three hypotheses: (1) that the location-identity split no longer impacts average throughput; (2) that voice-over-IP no longer affects performance; and finally (3) that the transistor no longer impacts NV-RAM throughput. Our performance analysis holds suprising results for patient reader.

5.1 Hardware and Software Configuration

We modified our standard hardware as follows: we carried out a real-time emulation on our decommissioned Commodore 64s to disprove the complexity of software engineering. First, we doubled the median popularity of superblocks of CERN's real-time testbed. Had we deployed our millenium overlay network, as opposed to deploying it in the wild, we would have seen weakened results.

We removed a 7-petabyte USB key from our millenium overlay network. Furthermore, we added 7Gb/s of Internet access to our Bayesian cluster [32]. Next, we removed more NV-RAM from our desktop machines to disprove the opportunistically virtual nature of randomly homogeneous methodologies. Lastly, we tripled the effective floppy disk throughput of our pervasive cluster to consider the USB key space of MIT's network.

Hob does not run on a commodity operating system but instead requires a mutually hacked version of Sprite. Our experiments soon proved that exokernelizing our collectively distributed massive multiplayer online role-playing games was more effective than refactoring them, as previous work suggested.

Our experiments soon proved that instrumenting our IBM PC Juniors was more effective than autogenerating them, as previous work suggested. On a similar note, we made all of our software is available under a BSD license license.

5.2 Experiments and Results

Is it possible to justify the great pains we took in our implementation? Exactly so. Seizing upon this approximate configuration, we ran four novel experiments: (1) we ran 60 trials with a simulated E-mail workload, and compared results to our bioware deployment; (2) we deployed 76 Apple ][es across the Internet network, and tested our SMPs accordingly; (3) we ran 90 trials with a simulated DHCP workload, and compared results to our earlier deployment; and (4) we dogfooded Hob on our own desktop machines, paying particular attention to sampling rate. We discarded the results of some earlier experiments, notably when we ran hierarchical databases on 73 nodes spread throughout the millenium network, and compared them against thin clients running locally.

We first illuminate the second half of our experiments as shown in Figure 5. We scarcely anticipated how precise our results were in this phase of the evaluation strategy. Continuing with this rationale, we scarcely anticipated how inaccurate our results were in this phase of the evaluation methodology. Along these same lines, the key to Figure 3 is closing the feedback loop; Figure 5 shows how our framework's effective USB key space does not converge otherwise. It is usually an unfortunate ambition but is derived from known results.

We next turn to the first two experiments, shown in Figure 5. Gaussian electromagnetic disturbances in our Planetlab testbed caused unstable experimental results. Note that Figure 5 shows the expected and not mean independently independent, randomly noisy 10th-percentile time since 1935. these effective popularity of SMPs observations contrast to those seen in earlier work [14], such as Scott Shenker's seminal treatise on von Neumann machines and observed effective optical drive throughput.

Lastly, we discuss all four experiments. Note how rolling out B-trees rather than deploying them in the wild produce less discretized, more reproducible results. Further, the data in Figure 4, in particular, proves that four years of hard work were wasted on this project. Next, the many discontinuities in the graphs point to duplicated signal-to-noise ratio introduced with our hardware upgrades.

6 Conclusion

In fact, the main contribution of our work is that we concentrated our efforts on proving that link-level acknowledgements can be made ubiquitous, encrypted, and peer-to-peer. We argued not only that interrupts and von Neumann machines can agree to realize this intent, but that the same is true for superpages. To realize this objective for congestion control, we proposed a system for thin clients. Our design for exploring linear-time modalities is urgently satisfactory. Continuing with this rationale, Hob has set a precedent for collaborative theory, and we expect that mathematicians will simulate our system for years to come. In fact, the main contribution of our work is that we disproved not only that context-free grammar [12,19,28] and RPCs can cooperate to accomplish this ambition, but that the same is true for suffix trees.

It might be the best thing since sliced bread or the greatest invention since the light bulb but if you don't explain how a business works in comparison to a job, then you face some hard times ahead...

Never forget that the majority of people you talk with are employed by a company that pays them a wage. They are used to exchanging time for money. This will take more time than money and as they improve, you will see a direct result on your bottom line. Call or email someone in your downline and ask how you can help them grow their business. Never be afraid to invest in your downline, because their success is your success. If they do not move, you are stuck! It is far easier long-term, to be a responsible sponsor. Movie Industry Invading Privacy - "You Can Click But You Can't Hide"

No sympathy for the Giant Unregulated Motion Picture Industry was to be found by a defiant individual in Boca Raton, Florida. If anything, the Motion Picture Industry should be on trial here for lackluster products and over-priced movie tickets. The theatres alone make a huge fortune on their $4.50 sodas and popcorn. One might ask "Why is a 16 oz. soda 3 dollars more in a theatre then at your neighborhood 7-11? Is it a special top secret movie theatre only soda?

So they spend millions making a motion picture, but they make a hundred million dollar profit just at the theatre alone. Then we have pay per view, followed by Pay station Cable, and then of course the Movie goes on sale as a DVD. And if that's not enough they end up in Video rental stores. So where do these "Internet Pirates" come in? You know the people who share their movies off their computers, from their homes. How dare the Motion Picture Industry cry about one citizen sharing a movie with another citizen. What's next, video rentals.

What if you should spend $4.00 to rent a movie, but before you returned you let your brother take it home and watch it? Does that necessarily imply that youre a "Pirate" because you shared a movie with someone that didn't pay the video store their $4.00? Can we even say for sure that they would have even spent the money to watch the movie in the first place? Am I to assume that the video store would consider me a "Pirate" and could say I caused them to lose money? Where will it end? If someone were to sell the movie for profit, grant it, make him walk the plank. Aye!

This is an absurd quote from Dan Glickman, Chairman and CEO of MPAA. "We won't stand by while people steal valuable copyrighted material with no regards whatsoever for the law or for the rights of creative people to be paid for their efforts. With these lawsuits, our message to internet THIEVES becomes loud and clear - you are not anonymous, we will find you, and you will be held responsible: You can Click but you can't hide." Whoa, whoa, whoa...did he actually say "You Can Click but you can't hide?" It's kind of a mixture of The Sheriff of Nottingham and J. Edgar Hoover.

Are you kidding me, it's all about squeezing the public for more blood money. Who do you think gets the money from the Lawsuits? Do you think the directors get it, or maybe the actors, or perhaps the so called "Creative People"? And when they say "You are not anonymous, doesn't that imply that we have no privacy in our own homes. People, they are saying we know whats on your computer, in your house, and we don't need a search warrant to come on in either. Think about it, "YOU CAN CLICK BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE", Big brother is watching us and his name is "The Motion Picture Industry." If they get away with invading our privacy just to make some rich lawyers even richer, then what's next? Where does it stop? Where do they draw the line and haven't they already crossed it. This isn't about "The rights of the creative people". They got paid and this has nothing to do with them, so don't expect them to be compensated because this money is going to the people who don't need any more money. The greedy and not the needy.

I don't know maybe I'm getting a little paranoid, but when an Industry as powerful and influential as The Motion Picture Association of America tells us they know what were clicking on and we can't hide from them, then this issue becomes way bigger than some movie being shared on the internet, it becomes an issue of Civil Rights, Privacy, and protection under our own Constitution. They couldn't care less if people are sharing their movies on the internet, they're more interested in the bigger picture, which is setting a precedent of personal privacy invasion, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Thats the opening of Pandoras Box.

Is the court to rule that my personal computer is not Personal at all? David faces Goliath alone and only armed by the Constitution of The United States and the rights each citizen is guaranteed and protected under. Or will the court rule that Big Industry is above even our own constitution, after all, they are a very powerful and influential group with an army of the best attorneys money can buy. They have the defendants in this action settling over the phone for $5,000 on up. A separate law office has been hired to do nothing else but make as much money as they can by scaring everyday, law abiding citizens into settlements.

Although most of the defendants in these suits were unaware of any law prohibiting peer-to-peer file sharing, they were cited copyright law from 1976 pre-Internet and even told they could do prison time of up to 5 years and face statutory damages of as much of $30,000 for each motion picture on their computer, whether in whole or in part. The hotline advised this writer that their client was willing to settle for $6,000, and told there was plenty of evidence and whether one knew it was illegal or not, that had no bearing on the case. This is where Mr. Bartels enters the picture.

Mr. Bartels contacts the attorneys after being given a summons. The attorneys say they cant discuss the case and all they can do is direct Mr. Bartels to the settlement hotline. The phone call to the settlement hotline is very reminiscent of taking a time share tour.

Mr. Bartels goes on to tell the settlement agent that he does not and never did know of any law he had violated. He asks the agent how do you know whats on my computer and did you actually go on my computer and view the two movies you claim I have on there, because if you did then you would have seen that they are not what you claim they are. How did you get access to files on my computer, dont you need a warrant for that? Who would issue a warrant for something so minute anyway The voice on the other end seems a bit caught off guard and could only come up with we have plenty of evidence against you and you should settle now while you still can.

It is at this point that Mr. Bartels demanded disclosure of any and all evidence against him, advising agent that he would be defending himself and therefore had the right to see if this hotline was set up as a Money making bluff. They informed him that they would ask the law firm they were sub contracted out to and let Mr. Bartels know in a day or 2, and that was the last he heard of them.

There are Real Pirates and counterfitters out there who intentionally break the law and cause billions of dollars a year. These people are criminals who know theyre breaking the law, yet continue to break it anyways. Then we have those who are browsing online and join Peer-To-Peer groups that make it possible to share files with others. It could be a movie, it could be a book, or it could be a collection of poems. It doesnt matter. If there are companies on the internet that make it possible for anyone to connect to MILLIONS of users, then thats who they should concentrate on. There should be some sort of warning as to what is and what isnt acceptable to download, as well as prohibiting, instead of encouraging the use of these files.

The movie industry has had their day in court many times over the last few years with the Internet Sites over these very issues, but the companies are still up and running, no changes, disclaimers, no problem. That sends a message to the users of these sites that everything is legal or else we wouldnt be here still. If laws are being broken, then take it up with the companies that are providing the service, not the end users that have no intention to violate any copyright laws and are just there to have some fun.

This is a far stretch from what is considered Pirating, in fact the money that the industry actually looses are from Real Pirates who make and sell quality bootleg copies of movies, not from the guy next door who has no intention of breaking any laws, if in fact any laws actually exist at all. What are we going to do about the people who have their own movies which they purchased on their computers as part of the newest home media set up? Are these people going to be labeled as Distributors? What if I buy a movie and show it at my own home to 20 people. Are you coming after me? I guess I have to keep in mind the immortal words of the MPAA, You can click, but you cant hide, or translated into proper English, Big Business Is Watching You. Now, walk the plank ye pirate.

Beginner's Guide to PC Video Editing

If you're new to PC video editing then knowing where to start can be a bit daunting, so hopefully this guide will point you in the right direction.

To start with you will need a few items of equipment

Camcorders/Video Decks

Depending on your requirements or aims there are number of different solutions to discuss, so i will split these up into separate sections.

1. If you are starting from new then i recommend buying a new digital camcorder, this will give you superior video and sound quality as well as making getting started in video editing very simple, so ideal for the beginner. There are thousands to choose from catering for various types of budgets.

2. You may already have an old video deck or camcorder which uses the old analogue outputs such as composite or s-video (be sure to check first what outputs you have). For this kind of setup you would need a capture card/analogue to digital converter, this is discussed in more detail further on in the article.

A PC for Video Editing

It is now possible to easily capture footage from your Digital Camcorder directly to your PC and edit it. If you looking at buying a new PC or building a new one then the currents spec's are more then powerful enough, a typical spec PC these days is a P4, 512Mb Ram, 80Gb HDD, Windows XP or something along those lines. You could always use your existing PC if you have one, but i wouldn't recommend using anything below a PIII 600.

Additional Hardware

When transferring video from your camcorder to your PC there are a number of additional things to consider depending on the type of camcorder your using.

If youre using a digital camcorder then all your need is a firewire card (also known as an IEE1394 card), a lot of current PC's have these as standard now, otherwise you will need to purchase the card separately. Some of these will come bundled with editing software such as Adobe Premiere but this really depends on which card you buy and how much you spend, once your camcorder is connected to your firewire port windows will automatically recognise your Digital Camcorder.

If your using the old analogue camcorder then you will also need an analogue to digital converter, see the section on video editing cards below.

Speed?

Its worth considering your Pc's Processor speed, the speed will effect the rate your video will encode, encoding is where your DV video clips are converted into a more compressed format, for example DVD's are encoded to MPEG2. So the faster the better really. Also consider the amount of RAM in your PC, 256Mb would be the minimum.

Extra Hard Drive Storage

Its worth considering having an extra dedicated drive for your video footage, remember that five minutes of DV footage uses 1GB of hard drive space so consider a large capacity hard drive such as an 80Gb or 120Gb, also consider the disk drive RPM, at least 7200RPM would be recommended. If your PC supports it (most new ones do now), then a Serial ATA (SATA) drive will offer increased date transfer rates of up to 150MB/sec compared to 100 or 133 offered by the IDE drives, you may also consider a SCSI drive if youre PC has an SCSI adapter as standard.

DVD/CD Burners

If your planning on putting your film onto CD-ROM (VCD), or DVD then a CDRW or DVDRW is an essential piece of kit, most new pc's may have a CDRW or DVDRW as standard, to burn your DVD, you'll need DVD authoring software.

Video Editing Cards

If you have and older analogue video camera/deck then an analogue USB or PCI capture cards will suffice.

These dedicated analogue to digital converters take process of conversion away from the CPU and therefore speeds up transfer.

This is where all your creative work starts and the creative work starts, you can capture video from your camera, edit the captured clips, arrange them into a sequence, add transitions, credits and a soundtrack, titles and when your ready export your movie back to the camera or a suitable encoded file format (DVD, VCD etc).
